All about the Spantik Base Camp Trek.

Due to its characteristic golden wall, the Spantik Base Camp Trek is frequently called the “Golden Peak” and offers a remarkable trip in the Karakoram Mountains. This walk offers a special chance to discover the area’s visual grandeur, especially the magnificent Spantik Peak, known for being one of the more approachable 7,000-meter summits in the Karakoram range.

The trek lasts for some strenuous days and takes you on an enthralling round trip deep inside the Karakoram. The base camp of Spantik Peak will be reached on the fourth day of the trek, marking the culmination of this amazing expedition. This voyage stands out due to its relative obscurity, which draws fewer travelers. This offers a rare opportunity to venture off the beaten tourist path and into the raw and romantic environment of the Karakoram.

The Spantik Base Camp Trek’s starting place is easily reachable from Islamabad. The trip starts in Skardu and then continues with drives to Shigar and Arandu, signaling the start of the real trekking adventure.

The main draw of this hike is Spantik, often known as the “Golden Peak” because of its magnificent golden wall. Climbers have a fantastic opportunity to reach a peak in the Karakoram range that is 7,000 meters high.

The journey takes you on a dramatic ascent along the Chogolungma Glacier and guides you through beautiful alpine scenery that is different from the usual trekking routes. The uncomplicated ascent concludes at Spantik’s top, where climbers are rewarded with breath-taking 360-degree vistas.

There are two notable ridges on Spantik Peak: the South East ridge, which is renowned for its length and challenges, and the North West ridge, also known as the “Golden Pillar.” The latter exhibits an enormous mixture of rock and ice and presents more technical difficulties. The first people to successfully ascend Spantik via the North West ridge were two British climbers, Mick Fowler and Victor Saunders.

As a Himalayan-scale objective, Spantik Peak is a natural next step for climbers who have already attained 6,000-meter hiking summits or are planning for 8,000-meter excursions.

Additionally, the journey introduces hikers to the enthralling Arandu town and its surroundings. Despite lacking some essential services, these isolated communities in central Baltistan are surrounded by a wealth of beautiful natural scenery. Arandu’s verdant valley provides a tranquil setting ideal for exploration while on the hike.

The Spantik Base Camp Trek is essentially a remarkable excursion into the heart of the Karakoram Mountains. It mixes the exhilaration of scaling a noteworthy peak with the chance to take in the unspoiled natural beauty of the area and engage with the residents of Arandu village. This walk is a unique experience that captures the unadulterated allure of the Karakoram Mountains.
