All about the Masherbrum Base Camp Trek.

The Masherbrum Base Camp Trek takes travellers to the foot of the daunting Masherbrum Mountain, a commanding peak rising to an elevation of 7,821 metres (25,659 feet), in a captivating and reasonably accessible trek. This journey offers a fantastic opportunity to explore the heart of the Karakoram Mountains while taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding terrain. It is located within the intriguing Ghanche District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.

Masherbrum, formerly known as K1, is a famous mountain that holds historical significance being the Karakoram mountain range’s first summit to be mapped. It rises tall as Pakistan’s ninth-highest mountain and the world’s 22nd-highest mountain, respectively. Masherbrum can occasionally be eclipsed by the famed 8,000-meter peaks in the Karakoram, notably K2, Gasherbrum I, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum II, despite its enormous size and stunning presence.

The Masherbrum Base Camp Trek is well known for its reasonable terrain, which opens it up to a wide range of hikers. The opportunity to fully experience the alluring splendour of the Karakoram is provided by this fantastic stand-alone adventure. For individuals who intend to travel to higher-altitude locations inside the Gondogoro Valley, it can also be used strategically as an acclimatisation hike.

The trek involves a short, uncomplicated glacier walk that usually takes about 30 minutes and takes hikers right to Masherbrum’s base camp.  Trekkers are treated to a variety of breathtaking landscapes throughout this gorgeous route, including expansive views of the nearby mountains. A view of the untamed and pure natural vistas that characterise the Karakoram is offered by this singular experience.

The Masherbrum Base Camp Trek guarantees an amazing journey through the untamed, beautiful, and awe-inspiring scenery of Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan area, whether it is undertaken as a stand-alone adventure or as a component of a more thorough Himalayan expedition. Trekkers have the unique opportunity to experience the pristine splendour of the Karakoram Mountains while standing in the shadow of Masherbrum’s overwhelming magnificence.

    Pick-up Details

With orange placards bearing your name and our company’s emblem, our guide is very simple to identify. You must arrive at Islamabad’s Islamabad International Airport. International flights typically land in the afternoon or at midnight. At least five days before your arrival in Pakistan, you must provide us with the specifics of both your inbound and outgoing flights. Unless you are on a connecting flight from another city in Pakistan, a member of our staff or a tour guide will meet you at the gates of the international arrivals area. You will be transferred to our partner hotel by the guide or staff. If you do not need an airport transfer, kindly let us know in advance.

Our guide or agent will pick up all of our guests at around 6 p.m. for a briefing and final payments at our office, followed by dinner, after lunch, and some rest at the hotel (preferably if you are arriving in the morning between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.). We will handle any outstanding fees and the briefing in Skardu if you are running late.

  2. Day 02 Fly to Skardu, Karakoram

    Today’s GPS Data Elevation: 2,498 m

Participants will take a breathtaking trip this morning from the airport in Islamabad to the airport in Skardu. If the clouds cooperate, you will be able to view Nanga Parbat. The day is free after arriving at Skardu.

  3. Day 03 Spend a free day in Skardu

    Today’s GPS Data Elevation: 2,498 m

The participants will trek to Skardu’s Kharpocho fort, which is perched on a mountain, after breakfast. The Indus River and the town of Skardu can be seen beautifully from the Kharpocho fort. The participants can also choose to go on a tour of Sadpara Lake, which will be followed by free time for shopping in Skardu Bazaar.

Our staff will take care of any additional government paperwork needed in Skardu while you are out exploring. Sometimes, this will require two days. Near the end of the walk, we have backup days in case of delays.

  4. Day 04 Drive from Skardu to Hushe

    Today’s GPS Data Elevation: 3,050 m

    Distance: 120 kilometers

    Time Required: 6-7 hours

The beginning of our trek is in Hushe. A beautiful drive connects Skardu with Hushe. The settlements of Khaplu, Macholo, Kanday, and Khane are located along the jeep road, which also crosses the Shyok River.

  5. Day 05 Trek from Hushe to Parbisan

Use one of two footbridges to cross the Hushe River. The lower footbridge, straight west of the settlement, leads to a trail along the actual right (west) bank of the Hushe River. It crosses Honbrok Brook and climbs through fields past stone buildings used for fodder storage. A rockier trail follows the river’s east bank. This trail crosses the upper footbridge and connects with the trail along the west bank for about 45 minutes. Wesuk huts are 45 minutes away. Cross the Aling River on a footbridge 30 minutes from Wesuk, followed by a shaded clean stream 10 minutes further on to Dumsum summer village. To reach Parbisan (3475m), a charming willow woodland with a clean spring at the foot of a talus slope, continue along the stony river bed for another 45 minutes. Cliffs rise over Parbisan across the river. A tiny, narrow side valley known as Kyipotama is located just south of the cliffs. The term comes from a defunct hunting method. Winter hunters used to send (tama) dogs (kyipo) to drive ibex into the valley where they proved easy prey because the sheer walls offered no exit

  6. Day 06 Trek from Parbisan to Brumbrama

3- to 4-hour period. At the snout of Masherbrum Glacier, the trail begins in a dense tamarisk rainforest that is marshy underfoot and evolves to a challenging glacier moraine as it continues on. Follow the stream up, keeping it to your right, until it emerges from the glacier’s snout, some 200 metres away, where a gully descends from the left. A one-hour ascent will take you to the top of the western lateral moraine of the Masherbrum Glacier after you cross the snowdrift at the bottom of the gully and follow the extremely steep, ill-defined road up the right (north) side of the gully.

There might be a softer trail up the moraine from the end of the tamarisk wood, but you will need a guide to show you the way. The summit of the moraine is covered in clumps of Columbine, potential, rockroses, and willow shrubs in August, along with a sea of purple vetch. The most picturesque part of the journey is the ascent to the top of the moraine. You walk through flower-filled areas while enjoying stunning views of Masherbrum Glacier, sheer cliff walls and jagged spires to the south and Masherbrum Peak to the north on your right.

The Brumbrammah campground, which translates to ”between mountain and willow bush,” is located on a large, flat, sandy area bordered by willow bushes, Edelweiss, and a variety of other flowers. It is located down to the left of the lateral moraine below the mountain wall. In July, there is a lake here, but by mid-August, the water source is gone. Bruni Brama, a subsidiary valley heading up to Cathedral, Mitre, Sceptre, and Crown peaks, joins the main valley at this point.

    A night spent in camps

    Today’s GPS Data Elevation:  538 m

  12. Day 12 A backup day in case of flight disruptions

    Today’s GPS Data Elevation: 538 m

If the participants make it to Islamabad on the domestic aircraft, it will be a free day. You could use this time to explore Islamabad.
