All about the Lohigal An Trek.

Located at the summit of Shishi Gol, Lohigal An is a non-glaciated pass that beckons adventurers to travel across its challenging landscape. This pass provides access to Lohigal Gol, a charming tributary of Golen Gol in the northeast. Lohigal An, one of three passes that connect these two breathtaking landscapes, is located in the easternmost section of the Shishi and Golen valleys. For those looking for adventure, the other two passes, Dok An and Roghili An, provide other ways.

Due to its more gradual rise, the route to Lohigal An from Madaglasht is frequently chosen by hikers as their point of departure. It’s crucial to remember that the route presents a difficult, steep descent from the north side of Lohigal An into Lohigal Gol, which adds to the journey’s intensity and thrill.

Since this pass has several names, local herders in the Madaglasht region frequently refer to Lohigal An as “Ghuchhar Sar An,” illustrating the region’s linguistic diversity.

Lohigal An is a special chance for people looking for adventure amidst pristine natural beauty and the rugged charm of the Shishi and Golen valleys. This voyage not only promises stunning scenery but also the opportunity to fully experience the wild beauty of this far-off region of the earth. In the majesty of nature’s beauties, Lohigal An serves as a reminder that real discovery frequently takes place off the main track.

  1. Day 01 Madaglasht Ghuchharsar Ghari

The actual right (north) bank of Shishi Gol to the northeast. Travel 10 km across farms and fields in two to three hours to reach Deozari. A second trail heads east along the outwash stream of the Andowir Glacier after 500 meters. Some maps depict a path from the Andowir An, located near the glacier’s head, to the upper Panjkora Valley of Dir, which is situated slightly south of Thalo An. However, the route is via glaciers with crevasses, is rarely traveled, and is neither practical nor advisable for hikers. From this intersection, the trail to the Lohigal An continues for another hour or 1.5 kilometers through trees to Ruagol Ghari. Follow the trek up, occasionally steeply, for one to two hours to reach the huts at Ghuchharsar Ghari (3505m). There are many suitable camping areas close by.

  2. Day 02 Ghuchharsar Ghari to Krui Uts

Follow the actual right (north) bank of the stream. The Dok An route splits out to the north and climbs steeply to that pass in an hour. With a good view of Ghuchhar Sar (6249m), the trail continues for an additional hour to the northeast of Lohigal An (4361m). Ghuchhar in Khowar means ”waterfall,” and Sar means ”head.” For 6.5km, or two to three hours, descend through the upper Lohigal Gol through flower-filled meadows to reach the huts at Krui Uts (red spring, 3581m).

  3. Day 03 Krui Uts to Chhatar Ghuni

Head north, briefly following the true left (west) bank of the Lohigal Gol, then cross to the opposing bank. Continue down the valley past a number of summer communities to Chhatar Ghuni (3000m), where the Lohigal Gol and Golen Gol meet. In any area of this meadow- and spring-filled valley, camp.

  4. Day 04 Chhatar Ghuni to Istor

Golen Gol to Istor (2700m), then descend.
