Set off on a fascinating journey deep within Pakistan’s Karakoram region in search of Chogolisa, a mountain that offers both stunning beauty and formidable challenges. Chogolisa is tucked away in the renowned Concordia region, close to the magnificent Baltoro Glacier, and is one of the tallest peaks in the world.
Chogolisa is represented by several majestic peaks, the tallest of which, Chogolisa-I, graces the southwest face and soars a dizzying 7,665 meters (25,147 ft) into the heavens. The second-highest peak on the northeastern side is lovingly known as Bride Peak and measures 7,654 meters; brave explorer Martin Conway gave it the name during his 1892 trip.
When an Austrian expedition under the direction of Eduard Koblmuller made the first successful ascent of Chogolisa’s southwest summit (Chogolisa-I) in 1975, the tale of human triumph on the mountain officially began. On August 2, 1975, mountaineers Gustav Ammerer and Fred Pressl attained this significant milestone by successfully ascending the mountain. The crew suffered a terrifying occurrence during the treacherous ascent when Eduard Koblmuller, their leader, fell through a cornice. But the team members’ quick thinking and practiced use of the ropes guaranteed his safe recovery.
Chogolisa-II was conquered by Japanese climbers from Kyoto University under the leadership of T. Kawabara in 1958 thanks to their unwavering attitude. Mountaineers M. Fujihira and K. Hirai made history by becoming the first people to climb Chogolisa-II’s peak during this expedition.
The Chogolisa Expedition cordially invites you to discover the splendor of the Karakoram, which is home to some of the most breathtaking peaks in the entire globe. A rare chance to walk in the footsteps of climbing giants, the trek immerses you in the pristine landscapes of the Baltoro Glacier and the famed Concordia region. You’ll not only reach the summit of Chogolisa as you climb its difficult slopes, but you’ll also set off on a voyage of self-discovery and form a lasting bond with Pakistan’s northern frontier’s natural treasures.
