Ghent Kangri Expedition

Get ready for a challenging adventure to conquer Ghent Kangri, also known as Mount Ghent, a notable peak situated inside the Saltoro Muztagh, a sub-range of the Karakoram Mountains in Gilgit-Baltistan close to Jammu Kashmir, Pakistan. With a height of 7,401 metres (24,281 ft), this amazing peak ranks as the 69th highest in the world and the 30th highest in Pakistan. The Siachen Glacier region’s Ghent Kangri is located close to the Line of Control dividing Pakistan from India, giving its spectacular presence a geopolitical significance.

In 1961, an Austrian Expedition headed by Eric Waschak and Wolfgang Axt made the first successful ascent of Ghent Kangri. Each expedition is a hard task due to the region’s difficult terrain and military presence, which have discouraged several attempts to climb the top and its base camp.

Ghent Kangri is part of the Saltoro Muztagh, a section of the Karakorum Mountains in the Jammu and Kashmir region close to the Siachen Glacier. This sub-range, which contains four peaks with elevations greater than 7,000 metres, is the centre of the Karakoram Mountains. One of the most famous peaks in the world, the K2, is located in the Karakoram Mountain Range, a massive geological structure that spans China and Pakistan. This range, which spans over 500 kilometres in length and 200 kilometres in width, at various spots connects invisibly to the Hindukush and Himalaya Mountains. The area’s junction with three separate nations—India, Pakistan, and China—underscores its geographic importance.

  c. Personal equipment transportation service: Sherpas transport up to 10 kg (22 lbs) of personal items between camps and up and down the mountain.
